09/15/2007 - Game 7 vs. the Snipers was a bit more like what I am used to. It was a very close game; the score was 5-5 after 3 full periods and a 5 minute over-time period. The game only ended after 7 shooters from each team went head-2-head against the goalies in an old fashion ice hockey shoot-out.

I could hardly believe it!I had a real problem this game by passing the offensive zone's blue line ahead of the puck carrier (the coach wanted to know what I was in such a hurry for). I tried to stay even with the puck carrier; it's not my fault they were taking the long way around!

The Snipers had their share of good, intermediate and newbies, just like we did. They were all pretty good sports and there weren't any of the shenanigans like we saw vs. the Patriots last week. One of their guys scored 4 of their 5 points; the guy could shoot from the blue line and put it anywhere he wanted. Our goalie wasn't at his prime this evening however, so whatever. Who was (aside from that particular 'sniper').

The Komets had a little get together Friday evening at the Grapevine Mall's GameWorks arcade, where we had a private room, some food and some fun. We all laughed at the "hockey hockey hockey pizza" picture I submitted to (and was subsequently published in) Ice Times Magazine (icetimesmagazine.com), and discussed which rookie would be the first to score a goal. The race was on between myself, Stephen (Chilly Willy) and Mike (Thin Ice). These two gents had made private bets on the winner getting his car washed, but I was told that wouldn't work for me because my BMW 330ci was too expensive… So just before the Snipers game, I bet with Mike that he would have to clean my pool (which is already clean, but I just wanted him to come over and swim with the family). He agreed (sucker).

Wow! That was awesome!
Rookie Komet Wil Dobson [80] celebrates after scoring his 1st goal!

Well hey! I came the long way around to say I SCORED A GOAL! Whoohoo! The coach had chewed on us about skating up to the net and then not sticking around to harass the opposing netminder… So I just hung around waiting for either a pass or a rebound. My chance came finally when Ryan Smith (d) fired one in just to the right of the net, where I deflected it in off of my stick blade! I can still vividly recall the sound of the puck off of my stick, the slight jarring in the handle, and the flapping of the net as it absorbed the impact of the puck. I was worried (foolishly) that it wouldn't be attributed to me because it all seemed to happen so fast, but the rest of my line saw it and gave me credit for the tip in.
